I am looking to be able to add a few dimensions to my scene that allows me to show the length, width, depth of our product. How would I go about doing this?
It’s something I would probably do post render, but sometimes I quite like to export a Drawing for example a solidworks technical drawing, with the dimensions on and add it as a label to a piece of geometry.
This isn’t quite what you are looking for as I didn’t put the dimensions on but it describes what I mean:
I just want to chime in and say, that looks great Harry!
I don’t think I would’ve thought of doing that myself, will definitely keep it in mind for future projects.
That’s as cool concept thank you for sharing
I am very new to keyshot and this is my first larger project I am working on.
Is there a way to draw in lines and/or text to the scene or post render. We are making a tabular type DWG where we want to call out dimensions “A” “B” “C” …etc and then have a sheet that calls out the real numbers based on specifc options being chosen. So the keyshot rendering would have generic letters as dimensions
Thanks @joakim.eriksson! That brief was based on a rebranding where we wanted to show the technical as well as fun nature of the products, but really it works great for any technical product to give it more of an engineered feel. Look forward to seeing how you use it in the future
@brian.webb The only thing I can think of is a multi-material, where the labels change depending on the call out. Or actually modelling the numbers and lines in your CAD software. I’m not sure how you’re sharing the work, as images/video or as a Keyshot Web Viewer file but creating different studios with the call outs specific to the A, B, C etc is probably what I would do if I have modelled the dimensions.
In post if I have access to the DWG I would export the dimensions I needed with lines as a PNG and add it as a layer in Photoshop or whatever software you’re using. Or draw them on myself.
Feel free to send me a message with more of your project details if you want.
As a side note I export a copy of my Solidworks DWG’s as .Ai (illustrator file) so I can the export as a PNG from there or clean up and lines I don’t like. Then it’s easy to use as a label.
I sent you a DM with some more details. thank you
Unfortunately I don’t think this is possible within Keyshot. If it was it certainly would make my life easier. Generally I personally render out illustrative angles and create spec sheets with measurements and dimensions in Illustrator to send to factories. Keyshot does have a CMF page they can export out of Keyshot, but that is more for materials and colors, not so much as dimensions and measurements. It also takes a bit of setup for it to work properly as it exports the material data from the applied materials.
@harry.wills Your animation is great and if you don’t mind, I might use this as well for future projects
@brian.webb The only thing I can think of is adding a flat plane (translucent) and putting a label with your dimensions onto it. It is not the most convenient way, but it should work, if I understood your question correctly.
